Company F, 1st California Infantry

Carleton1

We are a member of the California Column and as such, Company F, 1st California Infantry was established to provide public the education regarding the Civil War, support preservation and to interpret Civil War history through events, demonstrations and exhibits.

Although primarily an Infantry group, we encourage our members to develop and present impressions which are compatible with our units overall image. The 1st California's focus is mainly Arizona and New Mexico but frequently our members participate in regional and/or  national events. When attending these events, we portray Company H, of the 14th Indiana Infantry.

JOINING UP

We welcome recruits and will be glad to discuss what's involved in reenacting, sources for uniforms, weapons, and gear.  In Company F, we learn about Civil War era drill, uniforms, military custom, weapons skills and safety, camp skills and cooking, and period songs. While we strive for reasonable authenticity, we are not "hard core." Our objectives are reenactor safety, fun & camaraderie, and authenticity.

You are welcome to try us out. and we encourage you to visit us at a reenactment event. We can arrange loans of uniforms and equipment, so you can try it out first before you purchase your own. We are a family oriented mainstream organization which welcomes any individual with an interest in the Civil War to join our organization.

We hope to see you on the field!
