Brown Water Mess

We are a small group of living historians dedicated to an accurate portrayal of Company H, 22nd North Carolina Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. Specifically, our impression is from July 1862, following the Seven Days’ battles, through August 1863. During this period, our unit would have seen action in the Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg campaigns in the eastern theatre of the war in the Army of Northern Virginia.

Our unit is based out of the New Mexico Territory, however we have members in Arizona, Maryland and West Virginia, and we participate in events throughout the country. We pride ourselves on authenticity in our impressions & equipage, including our actions on campaign, in camp and during events.

Authenticity is paramount for our unit. We strive for it in order to facilitate the most accurate living history possible out of respect for those who actually did live it. We all have a sincere interest and passion for this period of history, and this translates into a desire to live it as nearly as possible when given the opportunity. Our vendor list and equipage and accoutrement recommendations are a reflection of this.

However, that is not to say that we are exclusive. There are many “mainstream” events that we regularly participate in where things are more relaxed and permissible, and where “farbism” is much more tolerated. So, no worries, you won’t be given the boot because you bring farb to an event. Just be sure to keep it away from the Corporals!
